The Kick, Lead and Dream (KLD) Initiative was founded in 2007 to create an environment where motivated high school and middle school students come together with at-risk kids to provide them with role models and opportunities to learn soccer skills, leadership skills and the ability to dream BIG!
Campers from middle schools and elementary schools are coached and led by student coaches from local high schools. Camp highlights include soccer tournaments, club recruiting day, water balloon competition, and inspirational talks. Past speakers have included players from the San Francisco Forty Niners, Cincinnati Bengals, San Jose Earthquakes and FC Gold Pride, Police Chiefs and officers from Mountain View and Sunnyvale, Mountain View Mayor, and a Superbowl ring bearing High School Principal.
Campers and coaches are provided with plenty of refreshments along with T-shirts, bagpacks and a lot more. Transportation is also provided from select pickup points in Mountain View and Sunnyvale.
Fantastic opportunity to give back to the community and have fun. Be a role model to younger kids from underprivileged backgrounds. Enjoy playing soccer with them. Learn leadership skills. Hear inspirational talks from community and sports stars. Earn community service hours.
The camp had over 90 coaches last year from a range of Bay Area high schools including Mountain View HS, Los Altos HS, St. Francis, Bellarmine, Lynbrook, Homestead, Monta Vista, Fremont HS, Notre Dame and Harker.
Enjoy a great camp this summer. Lots of soccer, tournaments, food, games and prizes. Hear inspirational talks from famous sports figures. Compete to impress local club teams. And hang around with local high school soccer stars.
The camp had over 400 campers last year from Mountain View and Sunnyvale middle and elementary schools including Graham, Crittenden, Castro, Bubb, Huff, Columbia, Sunnyvale, Vargas, San Miguel and Cherry Chase.
Great opportunity to promote this all volunteer camp which brings kids from different backgrounds and demographics together, teaches them leadership skills, and strengthens our community.
Last year's sponsors include the Mountain View Police Activities League (MVPAL), Sunnyvale Police, MVLA Soccer Club, Kaiser, El Camino Hospital, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Lucille Packard Hospital, Google, Facebook and Sonitrol.

The 2012 Camp was a huge success and a record-breaking year on so many levels. What did it take to pull off the camp this year? 400 campers, 100 coaches, 30 volunteer police and parents, 4 guest speakers, 3 buses, 1200 gallons of Gatorade and water, 1000 pounds of fruit, 40 cans of field paint and over 2,000 water balloons…just to give a few numbers.
We are proud of our grassroots mission to provide at-risk children and teens in the Mountain View and Sunnyvale communities a positive environment to thrive in via soccer. Thank you to all of the coaches, volunteers, MVPAL, Sunnyvale Public Safety, sponsors and speakers for another outstanding year. Most importantly, thank you to the campers for making KLD the best part of our summer!
